Making an oven door

You can order an oven door at the blacksmith or you can make one yourself.

Materials:

Working method:

Take a sheet of iron of approx. 3mm thick and draw the oven door on it. Grind the sheet in the right shape with the grinding disc or cold chisel. Afterwards you polish it up with a file or some bench shears.

If you already put in the chips of the hinges, then check where on the oven door you have to weld the handles to the hinges. Insert the door handle/ latch in the same way to close off the door. The door handle consists of a small bar, that when closing the door, because of its own weight, falls behind a nose.

If you provided the oven mouth with a recess that can support the oven door, then you do not need hinges. The oven door is then galvanized into the wall. Provide two wooden handles (insulated) to take away the door and put it back.

Make sure that in both cases the oven door fits close, otherwise a lot of hot air will escape at the top of the oven door during baking.
