alias

chopping hoe (syn.) (CARRUTHERS: 32)
description

Hand tool that resembles the regular hoe, but is lighter (approx. 500-800 g) and also has a longer handle (approx. 120-150 cm).

With this hoe, the gardener breaks the top layer of the soil to uproot weeds and / or, in case of drought, to reduce evaporation. In contrast to the regular hoe, this tool does not cut, but the blade is pulled superficially through the ground while pulling it back, and the weeds are possibly pushed loose again when cutting back.
